Cash App is a very popular financial platform that is primarily used as a money trading app. It allows you to send money from your bank account to anybody else in order to make contactless payments more efficient. However, it may not be the safest way to send money. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission saw a 472% increase in Cashapp scams in 2020.
While deleting the app is easy, deleting your entire account takes a bit more effort. So if you're worried about becoming the next victim, then keep reading this article! We will teach you how to delete a Cash App account, so you don't become a target for scammers.
What Is Cash App?
Cash App is a money transferring app that lets you send or receive money from other people with the app. It’s just like Venmo or Zelle, and you access money by linking your bank account to the service.
There’s even an optional feature to get a Cash App debit card that allows you to use your account funds and withdraw them from an ATM.
Cash App is free to download and use. When you create a new account, you’ll create a username that will also double as your $cashtag. You use that username to send or receive funds to other people within the app.
How To Delete a Cash App Account
Deleting a Cash App account does take a few steps. However, the process itself is very easy! First, start off by opening your Cash App and going to your account.
Before deleting anything, ensure you have no pending funds or a balance. If you do, you'll want to transfer this money to a safe bank account.
If you're not sure how to transfer money from your money apps, then head over to the second section of this article. We will discuss money transferring in detail!
Once your account has no pending transactions or balances, then it’s time to delete your account. So click the profile icon at the very top and scroll down until you the "Support link."
You will see various options but click on the link that says "Something Else." You'll want to then click on "Account Settings." From there, scroll down until you see "Close my Cash App Account." Click and then Confirm the action.
You can also opt to click “Delete Your Personal Information” and then “Contact Support” to speak with a Cash App support representative who can completely deactivate your account in its entirety.
Once you successfully complete these steps, you will be signed out of your account. You will also get a text and email confirming the closed account.
If you do not receive an email or text confirmation, look for Cash App help on the app. However, if you have received a confirmation, then you can go ahead and delete the app.
Money and Stock Transfering
Some people do use Cash App as their online banking forum. And if you're one of those people, you'll need to transfer your funds. To do so, go to your Cash App account and click "Banking," and then "Cash Out." Then ensure you choose the right bank if you have multiple banks linked to your Cash App account. Once you do this, Cash App will directly transfer all of your funds to the linked bank account or debit card on your profile — this ensures you’re not losing any money in the process of deleting your account. Once the transfer is complete, you can then delete your account and uninstall the app from your device.
If you bought stocks or bitcoin on Cash App, you'd need to sell these off before closing your account. Unfortunately, you cannot transfer your bitcoin or stocks onto another platform. Once your account is clear, then you can close it out!
Why Can't I Just Delete the App Itself?
Many of you may be thinking, why can't you just delete the app? Although it may be faster and easier to just delete the app, this will not solve anything.
In fact, your account will still be active. Therefore, any payments and personal information can still be gathered. So to fully protect yourself, delete the account and then the app.
Deleting a Cash App Account From a Laptop
If you do not have access to an android or iPhone, you can delete your account on a laptop or computer. To do so, you will take the same steps as we discussed earlier.
However, ensure you use a safe network and device when logging into your account on a laptop. If you're using public wifi, your information could possibly be stolen. So don't save any passwords onto your device when logging in.
And ensure the device itself is safe and does not have any viruses. Once you have all of these safety measures in check, you can go ahead and delete your Cash App account.
I Deleted My Cash App Account, but Someone Is Still Using My Information
If you have already deleted your account but you're still seeing some unusual activity, then you'll need to report this to your bank. The best option is to close out your cards and maybe even change your account number.
In some cases, your bank may get your money back, especially if they see the transaction was fraudulent. You should also contact Cash App customer support and inform them of the suspicious activity. In some cases, they can track down the users and put a hold on their accounts!
Will My Transaction History Be Deleted if I Delete My Account?
Thankfully any payments/transactions are 100% private. No one else can see your history but you and the recipient! However, you cannot delete your transaction history. Therefore, if you sent money to a friend and then deleted your account, your name will still show on their history.
Nevertheless, your transaction history does not hold any crucial information. So you don't have to worry about your safety as much, especially if you have already deleted your account.
Should I Block a Suspicious User or Delete My Account?
There are instances where your whole account may not be compromised, but you have a suspicious user aware of your account. In these instances, you can block an individual without needing to delete your entire account.
However, be aware that users can create new accounts under the allies. So if you believe this person may have your information, it's always best to block them and still delete your account!
Doing so will prevent the user from getting any new information while you're deleting your account. To block someone, simply go to your profile and then click on "Privacy and Security." Then you'll want to scroll down until you see "Incoming Requests." This option allows you to turn off/on any pending transactions from unknown users.
You can then go to the individual's profile and click the three dots at the top right. Then click on "View Profile," and at the bottom, you will "Block User" in red. Click this option, and this user will no longer have access to your account.
How Can You Access Your Personal Information on Cash App?
In certain states, you have the ability to withhold personal information from applications. If you’re looking to remove some security settings on your account but still want to keep your Cash App active, you can access and delete personal information and opt out of the “sale” of your info.
To request a copy of your personal information:
- Sign into your account from a web browser on your phone or computer.
- Click “Settings”
- Click “Download Your Info” under the “Your Info” tab.
- Click “Activity” to view your complete payment history.
- Click “Statements”
- Click “Export” to download the history of your transactions.
